Chapternity Ltd ("Chapternity", "we", "us" or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.
We collect information you provide directly to us, including your name and email address when you create an account; the content of your conversations with Sage; the text of the stories you create; photographs you upload; and any voice recordings you provide for the audiobook feature. When you place an order we also collect delivery details and the information needed to process your payment.
We automatically collect limited technical information needed to run the service, such as basic log data and information about how you use the site.
We use your information to provide the service: to power your conversation with Sage, generate and store your story, lay out and print your book, produce your audiobook, process payments, fulfil and deliver your order, and contact you about your account and orders. We also use it to respond to your enquiries and to keep the service secure.
Under UK data protection law, we process your data on the basis of performing our contract with you (to deliver the products and service you request), our legitimate interests (to operate and improve the service securely), your consent where required (for example, in creating a cloned voice), and to comply with our legal obligations.
We rely on trusted third parties to deliver the service, and share only the data necessary for each to do its job. These include Supabase (secure database and file storage), Anthropic (AI used to help write your story), ElevenLabs (voice synthesis and voice cloning for audiobooks), Stripe (payment processing), Gelato (print production and fulfilment), and Resend (sending transactional emails). Each of these providers processes data under its own terms and security commitments.
Your data is stored securely and access is restricted to your own account. We do not store full payment card details; these are handled by Stripe. While no online service can be guaranteed completely secure, we take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information.
Some of our providers operate outside the United Kingdom. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards as required by UK data protection law.
We keep your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service and meet our legal obligations. You can ask us to delete your story, photographs and any voice recording at any time.
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to request its deletion, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Chapternity is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 18 for the purpose of creating their own account.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page.
If you have any questions about this policy or your data, please contact us at team@chapternity.com.
